District Update Memo |
Unionization Update: The process of the employee union organization is proceeding smoothly, and there will be a resolution on the agenda for the June 17, Board of Trustees Meeting calling for formal recognition of the California School Employees Association (CSEA). We are still resolving the “Agency Shop” question, which refers to the status of employees that do not wish to belong to a union.
RIFA Survey and Treatment Update: This week the newly constituted team of four seasonal employees started working in RIFA infested neighborhoods. Once a neighborhood has been determined to be infested through a certain call volume, staff will leave a card at each property telling the residents of the RIFA situation and the District’s plans to treat all of the properties within a given set of boundaries. The goal is to treat both front and back yards of every house in the neighborhood. In addition to stating the District’s intentions involving treatment, the resident is provided a number to call if they do not want treatment. Of the 158 properties notified in the first neighborhood, four called; one to say no to the treatment and three to confirm a time so they could manage their dogs.
Engineer’s Report: Staff has completed its contribution to the Assessment District No. 2 Engineer’s Report. Willdan Financial Services will put the finishing touches on it, and the Trustees will receive a copy in the agenda packet for the next Board Meeting. There was a fair amount of “back and forthing” with the attorneys and the consultant, but we have a far better document than when we started. The report can be updated and will serve the district for many years. In spite of the effort, all agreed that this type of self-evaluation is a valuable process.
District Manager Recruitment Update: The recruitment brochure was e-mailed to the entire board last Friday, and the committee was sent a hard copy on Monday. I would like to thank everyone who responded with suggestions. Your ideas have been incorporated and forwarded to Robert Berg at Ralph Anderson, and there should be a finished document available for distribution shortly.
